Music has always been the thread that leads me back to myself. One of the few things that lets me get out of my head.
I grew up surrounded by my dad's CDs cycling through the house: The Police, Alicia Keys, Djavan. At age nine, I picked up the clarinet. At thirteen, my friends introduced me to punk rock, and suddenly clarinet felt uncool. I grabbed a bass guitar and learned just enough to start playing in a band. Mark Hoppus, Flea, Chris Wolstenholme, Aston Barrett, Verdine White—their lines became my teachers for the next decade.
After college in 2016, the real world hit hard and I fell into the blues—literally and figuratively. No clear goals, friends scattered, evenings that stretched empty. I bought a guitar to chase the sounds created by John Mayer, Stevie Ray Vaughan, BB King.
After several years on the guitar and writing scribbles, songs started to flow. I took voice lessons, learned to use Logic Pro, bought a mic and an interface. I started recording my first album at home in 2024. In 2026, I released Compartments under vja.
Moving forward I want to continue making music and start collaborating with others—write, produce, create. Please get in touch if anything resonates with you!

vja is a Los Angeles–based writer and multi-instrumentalist whose debut album Compartments blurs the boundaries between dream pop haze, neo-psychedelic color, and garage rock grit. Lyrically introspective and deeply felt, the album is a fevered search for meaning amidst the noise of modern life. Love, community, evolution, and authenticity collide in a frenzy of emotional catharsis—pulling listeners into a whirlwind of cosmic release and grounded rebellion. Compartments channels swirling atmospheres and kinetic momentum into a sonic lane of warm distortion that feels transportive and radiant—stormy experimentation that clears into comforting melodic skies. Tracks pulse with urgency, shimmer with texture, and refuse to settle into easy categorization. Mixed and mastered by William Carroll (Weezer – OK Human), the record balances polish with rawness and clarity with haze.
